Blended Families

Two families becoming one takes more than love

Blending a family after divorce is one of the most hopeful things you can do — and one of the hardest. New partners, step-parents, step-siblings, two sets of house rules, and a co-parent who may not be blending at the same pace you are. Love starts the new family; skills hold it together.

I don’t just coach this — I live it. I’m part of a blended family myself: four children of my own, and I’m delighted to include my partner’s daughter and say we have a combined five.

What we work on together

  • Step-parent and step-sibling dynamics — building trust without forcing it, and letting relationships grow at a child’s pace, not an adult’s timetable.
  • Co-parenting across households — keeping communication neutral and workable with a former spouse, especially when the two homes run by different rules.
  • Introducing a new partner — the when, the how, and what your children most need to hear from you.
  • Shared rituals and house rules — holidays, birthdays, and everyday routines that feel fair in both homes.
  • Protecting the couple at the center — the new family only works when the relationship that created it stays strong.

I work with individuals, couples, and co-parents of all kinds — including LGBTQ+ families. One idea guides everything: it’s not the divorce that harms children — it’s the conflict around it. A blended family that responds instead of reacts gives every child in it a calmer place to grow up.
